It's time for a new table in the Google Algorithm Database
"TRUSTRANK"
My first reading of trustrank (a new theory into the Google Link Algoritms) was from Aaron Wall on his site here: http://www.seobook.com/archives/000661.shtml
Trustrank can be on of the most practicle ideas I have heard in a while and I am sure it is being used now and if not yet, will be used very soon.
I imagine that MSN and yahoo would like to use this type of algorithm but this is something that Google just recently patented as I discussed in this post: http://www.searchen.com/forum/t270-yahoo-and-msn-prediction.html
It is very easy to create pagerank or high numbers of backlinks to a website. Especially if you have a large budget.
Trustrank would help insure that large numbers of backlinks will not "work" or weigh as much if their isn't some good "trusted" inbound links in the mix...
In basics, If your website has 80,000 backlinks to it, but doesn't contain 1 "trusted link", then you can kiss your topranking search results and PR goodbye, you have been minipulating....
If your site is truely valuable then how could you have 80,000 backlinks, butu not one backlink from something like the Yahoo directory or say DMOZ?
It's almost not possible.
Now I'm using these two websites as an example only because they should definetly be on the trusted list, but many other sites will be on the trusted list. What I am trying to get at though, is if you have large amounts of links pointing to your site, yet no trusted backlinks you should be sure to build BIG links as they are most likely directly trusted sites, or linked to from other trusted sites, which should still qualify you for a fair share at your own trustrank leaking in...
This also seems to go back to a post a made a few months back titled:
