Recently I have noticed significant weight assigned in Yahoo natural search for websites that hold a position in the Yahoo! directory.
Therefor it has begun to look much more benificial to submit a site to Yahoo!'s newly named "Small Business Directory".
If your website or a clients website is not listed in the Yahoo! directory, it's time to let them know about the new $300 a year investment that is now an important part of natural search in the Yahoo! seach engine.
$300 a year is a small price to pay connsidering the amount of qualified leads your likely to generate from their popular directory and search feature.

they also pagenated and reorganized in order of popularity. which means in some categories there will be more value to powerful sites and less value to newer sites that might be stuck on page 4 of the category listings

But who is using Yahoo anyway?
Did it change since '96?
Joke apart, as a ten-year old internet user, I never had the need for a biased directory. But if they can bring you 30,000 visitors during the five next years, that 's probably a usefull investment. Since I don't have any more site listed there, I don't know if it is possible or not.

This is so true. I noticed this a few days ago. I think they are trying to get a new buzz in the directory, which has slown down because of Wiki, Zeal, Technorati, and SB sites like Digg, Reddit, MSN small biz, and Dmoz being important to g.

Yes they are, so where you are in the directory is a sighn of how Y will place you in the SERP's

I've been thinking about paying the $300 to list one of my sites in the Y! Directory. I've even had the form filled out and my debit card out of my wallet. If you guys really think it could be helpful, I think I'll try it.

It WILL help your search engine rankings in Yahoo --- That is the most significant benefit you will receive from a listing... Remember that it is also most likely a authority link back to your site when it comes to the believed "trust rank"....
Use those to ideas to weight the decision....
Also keep in mind that your title and description for your algorithmic search listing is most likely to be whatever it is in the directory.

Thanks for the info Clasione. I'm going to pony up the cash for one of my sites, jamconnect.com, it's a musicians classified and musician forum site. I really started the site because all of the other competing sites are outdated and you never get replies to a post. The problem is my competition; the "older" high PR sites are in Y! Directory, and when I check their backlinks to see where they're getting their PR the Y! listing weighs in heavily.

Have you seen a slight bump Bzz? Just curious if you see an immediate result after being placed in the yahoo directory?

I had second thoughts about spending $300 for a listing, so I threw the money in a few HYIP's instead and have already doubled my money.
