When it comes to back link credit with major search engines, I think text links still beat image links. Do you think alt text helps to equalize the difference between its rival standard texts when it comes to links?

I guess with text links you can put them into context in the body of the text.
Such as... If you' want to rent a villa (http://www.villas2u.com) in Orlando then go to the Villas2u site.
It's hard to see how a link could be placed in this context.

I think equal weight is given. Image links also can be in content and they are less exploited.
bigdoug I always like the threads you come with :scratchch

They are definetly much less exploited, which should make them important to the engines algorithms....

I know it can be physically done, the hard part is making the content look natural.

Good points all,

The way people usually stuff up with image links is they request the same alt text all the time. Remember you need to vary the alt text as you do with the anchor in text links.
