Exclamation Google has lost TM battle for GMAIL

Has anyone noticed yet that it seems Google has lost on their trademark application for the mark "GMAIL"....

After 2 attempts to seal the name, it appears the right to use has been assigned to a company out of Miami FL

I'm sure they will be changing the name soon....

Here are some details I found:

If you've got an idea, you'd better make sure your the first to send it the application cause it's pretty obvious that application date means everything....

Re: Google has lost TM battle for GMAIL

I recently heard a name go around that it may be the new name for Gmail, but I cannot remember where or what it was that I heard...

I'm guessing that this is the reason any talks of changing it where out there to begin with...
Anyway, if I remember I will post it....

Re: Google has lost TM battle for GMAIL

Wow, Google lost. Maybe they'll end up buying the trademark or something.

Question if that one company owns the Gmail trademark can they sue Google for the domain name?

What does "the record is still LIVE" mean?

Cencourse's registration was made on March 31st, just the same day Google announced Gmail:

isn't it weird?

Not knowing anything about trademarketing I have this to ask:
Do you file for trademark for each site or can you file for company and use that trademark?
Thanks in advance for advice!

LIVE means it's an active file... DEAD means the application is no good anymore....

You need a seperate trademark for each individual mark you would like to hold.....

If your were marking the word "Biker Maniac" you would need a TM for that.... If you wanted to also have a trademark on the word "Biker Wide Web" - you would need a seperate application for that...

Each mark need it's own filing...

Re: Google has lost TM battle for GMAIL

talk about wanting to kick yourself. I registered gmail.com in 1994 for my fledgling company Giant Steps (in Miami). My friend and I were developing a webmail application way back then, but we sold the webmail app to this old hosting company in Palm Beach called Hiway Technologies, and we sold about 100 domains we had to a guy who worked for the company in Miami called Deneba (who makes the Canvas drawing software).... At the time, my partners and I made enough loot to quit our day jobs and persue other things like skating/surfing and touring with our punk band.

you can imagine how funny it is that my buddy has a gmail address :-)
