Bing Webmaster Tools Ads AI Citation Reporting
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Businesses that rely on Bing-powered search now have a new way to measure their visibility in AI-generated answers. Microsoft has introduced a new AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools, giving website owners insight into how their content is being used across supported Microsoft AI experiences, including Copilot.
Website owners can now see:
- Total AI citations
- Average cited pages
- Which pages are cited most often
- The search queries that triggered those citations
- Citation activity over time
The report also allows users to drill down into individual pages to see which AI queries generated citations and export the data for further analysis.

A citation doesn’t necessarily mean someone visited your website or became a customer. Instead, it indicates that Microsoft’s AI selected your content as one of the sources used to generate an answer. That may prove to be an increasingly valuable metric as AI-powered search continues to evolve.
Google has also announced similar reporting for AI-powered search experiences in Google Search Console, although the feature is still rolling out. Microsoft’s AI Performance report is already available, giving Bing users an early look at AI citation reporting.
Many business owners make the mistake of thinking Google is the only search engine worth paying attention to. While Google remains the market leader, Microsoft’s search ecosystem reaches 109 million unique PC users in the United States and processes 6.4 billion PC searches every month through Microsoft products, Bing-powered search partners, and AI experiences such as Copilot. Ignoring Bing means overlooking another meaningful source of visibility, traffic, and potential customers.
That is why AI citation reporting matters. Traditional metrics such as rankings, impressions, clicks, and conversions remain the foundation of search performance, but AI citations offer new insight into whether your content is being recognized as a trusted source by AI systems. As AI-powered search continues to grow, measuring AI visibility is likely to become another standard part of website performance reporting.
